On Monday April 21st, Programming presented the first event of three of RIC end. It started at 4 and ended at 8PM. It was in the Student Union ballroom and it had many different sections. There was a section to get a free massage and another to get henna tattoos. The line for the henna tattoos was long!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15424224446980330576noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1051997269586495029.post-34734616622392372002014-04-24T15:38:00.003-07:002014-04-24T15:38:48.470-07:00RIC Event #1

The first event I went to was PYM's Conference from Open Books Open Minds. I was there from 11AM to 2PM. The conference featured our Self Portrait assignments with the slideshow along other FYS classes' work and individuals PYM projects. There was a mini contest to see who would win the group project and the individual. We also enjoyed free food and got to learn about some PYM themes.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15424224446980330576noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1051997269586495029.post-72786625162937462902014-04-04T14:18:00.001-07:002014-04-04T14:18:38.538-07:00"Born Into Brothels"

4. List the various challenges that the children faced in their lives. Which issue do you think represented the biggest challenge for them?

I think that some of the issues the children faced dealt with education and money. They had to work very early in the morning and all day in order to have enough to just live. There is no time to rest for these children. They were also exposed to prostitution and parents dealing with drugs. They have no education and school's don't want them because their parents do illegal things and won't accept if a child is HIV positive. In my opinion it's not fair that these boys and girls have to pay for something their parents do. They are not at fault or to blame for the actions their parents choose to take. I feel like the country should want a change in the people and they could start off by giving everyone an education and an opportunity to better their future and themselves. In order to decrease the amount of drug dealing, illegal selling and prostitution.

I agree and disagree with the statement. I agree because money and education are the two most important things they needed and they were getting it. But i disagree because although the next generation got the opportunity to have a school, the seven or eight didn't receive that. Not every child in that country was helped and once again it's not fair that some may have to be left out.

where we socialize from time to time.

This picture is of my niece and my mother. Their clothing reflects the mood they were in. Bright colors meaning happiness and in this case celebration. My mom wears a pink short-sleeve shirt with black accents while my niece wears a long sleeve purple shirt with a white dress on top. It was my niece's birthday and my mom and I had gone shopping for that white dress. One can notice my niece looking somewhere else with a half smile while my mom is deeply staring at her with a smile. Her whole face shows joy as she is holding my niece beside the table. It's noticeable the location is the kitchen because of the stove in the back. The only other thing one can view in this picture is the blue wall in the back.

The picture was made to focus on my mom and niece. Any other thing inside the frame could have taken away from this special moment being shared. What was not shown was the cake bought for my niece's second birthday. Also, my family was towards where she was looking. I'm sure everyone looking at her with a big smile on their face. My family was my brother, his wife and my 10 year old nephew. The rest of the kitchen isn't viewable either. The refrigerator was in the back of me and the sink across. The kitchen is a small one but a viewer could not have determined that by just looking this picture.

This picture is significant to me because it shows two people that I profoundly love. My niece was born at a time where I needed distractions from certain problems. Until this day she manages to put a smile on my face despite the problems I may be having. There's no words to describe my mother's love. But one thing I love about this picture is the fact that she is smiling. But her smile is not just any smile, it's a sincere big one. She tends not to smile when taking a picture of her, no matter the occasion. This means that the smile she reveals is a true one that comes from deep inside her heart.
There are various types of perspectives, such as the worm's eye view, the bird's eye view, your eye view, mystery view and others. My picture on the left is the normal eye view, the one on the right is the bird eye view. I'm sitting in the same place, almost the same posture but yet these two pictures are very different from each other.

The photo on the right (Normal Eye View) is a picture where someone sitting next to me could see me as. You can see my face and notice that I am looking at a different direction. One may ask why? My eyes aren't set straight towards the camera. People may assume I'm looking at someone because there seems to be some interest in me. Unlike the second photo, you can easily notice my facial expression. This perspective was interesting to me because I could see how people view me. I've always wondered how others see me.

The second photo is of my hands. You can slightly see my body and notice that I am sitting next to a computer keyboard. Conclusions can be made that I am at school using the computer to do work. There's not much way to tell what it is I'm feeling due to the fact that my face is not visible. All there is are my hands to see. This view, the bird's eye view can lead a person to make many different assumptions. One may say I am mad and I just slammed the hand on the desk. Assuming my anger came from a friend who didn't want to help me do the project, since there is a computer keyboard and folder. Another may just make the assumption that I am showing my nails to my fellow classmate. Two different conclusions with two different emotions because there's no way to tell if I am mad, happy, sad or any other type of feeling.

Perspective changes the way I see myself because I have not seen myself in every perspective. My hands are seen by me all day everyday. I use them to brush my teeth, to open doors, to write notes, to type on the computer and many other things. But my face is not something I see all day. Unless I'm surrounded by mirrors the whole day, but that's not the case. I see my face when I look at myself in the mirror when randomly strolling by one at the mall, or in my bathroom or room. The only other way I see my face is by a picture. Therefore, the Bird Eye View came as no big deal to me while the Normal Eye View led me to think and analyze. I began to wonder if that's how I truly look to others. Through Eye view, you get a clear image of what people around you see. Through Bird's eye view you can take a look at what people who are standing over you see. I can notice what my facial expression was if a picture is taken through eye view. But in my Bird's Eye view you can't notice.
As a class, we analyzed two paintings that were very similar to each other yet had their differences. Both paintings invlolved a naked woman lying on a bed covering one of her parts with the left hand. One of the paintings we took a look at was Venus of Urbino by Titian. We used different techniques such as, observing objects, noticing our feelings, noticing our focal points and making conclusions. Many conclusions can be brought up regarding this painting. One being that people in power can be indifferent to bad things going on.
Our eyes from this painting can go on to view three main things, the naked lady on the bed, the two women in the back or the background which gives us a little view of the house which they are in. My attention was brought to the colors being used, wine red grabs our attention. This color is usually present in royalty and wealth. The background where we can see what seems to be a hallway, looks like the house where they are isn't just an ordinary house but where important people live. In order for you to be lying naked comfortably, you must be in a place where you feel welcomed, in a place you know and you are comfortable in. This is one of the reasons we can think that the lady in the forefront is powerful. He posture seems very relaxed, and she holds either rose petals or grapes, another symbol of wealth. She also wears a headband that makes her look more like a goddess and a bracelet. The way she is, is also the way the puppy is. They're both resting as if with no care in the world, even if there's a scene behind them. Her face seems pleasant and has a smirk, some sort of seducing look it seems. Her naked body shows she doesn't care if she's not covered, just like the powerful may not care of the situations going around them.
The scene behind the powerful woman is of two other woman who are covered from shoulders to feet. One of the women is on her knees while the other is watching over her, standing beside her. The one on her knees isn't very visible, all we are able to see is the back of her body but we cannot take a look at her facial expression or what her arms are doing. The colors in the back are darker than where the naked lady lays. The lady standing is rolling up her sleeves which all of these visuals give us a clue that perhaps the lady on her knees is getting punished or the lady standing is about to help her. Maybe the "goddess" did harm to the woman on her knees. Whatever the case may be, the powerful woman is not looking back.
The woman in the front may not be aware of what's going on or simply doesn't care. She looks at us with a relaxed face, no sign of her getting up or looking behind her. Symbolically, the gazing away from the tense scene behind her represents the privilege she holds, of being able to be ignorant to the problems and troubles others may have nearby.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15424224446980330576noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1051997269586495029.post-46292984287219365582014-01-24T12:10:00.001-08:002014-01-24T12:10:07.580-08:00Online Photography
